New Scientific Evidence in James Ossuary Forgery Trial

Israel Antiquities Authority vs. Conspiracy of (Alleged) Forgers

New scientific evidence has emerged in the famous James Ossuary forgery trial that has defendant Oded Golan confident that he will be found innocent of the forgery charges against him. Golan has been on trial in Jerusalem for the last four years, and stands accused of faking an inscription on the ossuary in order to raise its value, as well as fabricating other artifacts intended to dupe collectors.

However, Golan is confident that new scientific research undertaken by the defense will prove that the patina—a thin layer of biological material covering ancient items—that Golan is accused of faking cannot be artificially replicated. Such evidence would prove that the inscription could not have been inscribed in the last century, which would exonerate Golan and seriously undermine the prosecution’s case against him, which many believe is already tenuous.
