A seminal title first introduced in 1988 by BAS founding editor Hershel Shanks, it has sold more than 30,000 copies.

This fourth edition, edited by John Merrill and Hershel Shanks, has been completely updated to survey more than a millennium of Israel’s history from the ancestral narratives through the cataclysmic Roman destruction of the Jerusalem Temple – in 456 pages of authoritative, accessible text, and accompanied by pictures, charts, and other images.
