WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 10, 2026)—The hybrid BAS Symposium Who Really Wrote the Hebrew Bible? with renowned biblical scholars will take place in person Saturday, June 27 from 1:00 to 5:30 pm Eastern at the Sheraton Rockville Hotel in Rockville, Maryland. The event, including a live panel discussion moderated by Dr. Glenn Corbett, Editor-in-Chief of popular magazine Biblical Archaeology Review, will be simultaneously streamed online via Zoom.

From Genesis to the Prophets, the historical origins and development of the text of the Hebrew Bible tell us so much about the world’s most important book. Join us this summer to hear Drs. Gary Rendsburg, Rutgers University; William Schniedewind, UCLA; and Jeffrey Stackert, University of Chicago, present what we know about how and when the sacred text was written.

Hear their discussion on the historical contexts that influenced both the composition and compilation of these writings into what we know today. Q&A will follow the discussion, and all symposium attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the scholars.

Participants in this one-day only BAS Symposium will learn about:

· The Israelite scribes who recorded and wrote down the text

· Evidence the Torah was first composed during the days of David and Solomon

· How the different writings of the Torah were combined into a single text

“We are excited to provide this scholarly, yet very accessible event in the DC metro area where BAS is based,” Jonathan Laden, Executive Director, said. “And we hope the general, inquisitive public will join like-minded attendees—either in Rockville or online—for an enriching Saturday afternoon.”
