San Miceli, near Salemi, is the site of a very early (fourth-fifth century) Christian basilica with an adjacent settlement and possible caravanserai. Three phases of the basilica have been identified, as well as adjacent structures connected to the church.
One of the oldest Christian churches on Sicily, San Miceli offers a fascinating window into the history of early (paleo) Christianity on the island. The first final report volume has just been published and copies are available from the Institute of Archaeology at Andrews University.
