Horvat Tefen (Galilee, Israel) is located on a prominent hilltop overlooking Naḥal Beth Ha‘Emeq, a meandering creek that flows westwards to the ‘Akko coastal plain.
Previous surveys at the site yielded coins and pottery sherds dating from the late second–early first centuries B.C.E. The location of the site and the solid walls and towers surrounding it indicate a defensive, and probably military, site.
Our project’s goal is to shed new light on the fall of the Seleucids and the Hasmonean takeover of the Galilee.
