Daniel J. Harrington (1940–2014)

daniel-harringtonDaniel J. Harrington, professor of New Testament at Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, passed away on February 7, 2014, at age 73. Father Harrington—a Jesuit priest—served as editor of New Testament Abstracts from 1972 until his death. He was also editor of the 18-volume Sacra Pagina series of the New Testament Commentaries, a columnist for “The Word,” America magazine’s scripture column and a contributor on several occasions to the Biblical Archaeology Society’s magazine of Biblical insights, Bible Review.

A leading New Testament scholar, Father Harrington’s areas of research included the interpretation of the Bible in antiquity and today, Second Temple Judaism and the Dead Sea Scrolls. He was a pastoral associate at St. Agnes in Arlington and at St. Peter’s in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
