Antioch Dig Reveals Turkey’s Largest Ancient Mosaic

Bible and archaeology news

Excavations conducted during the building of a new hotel near the southern Turkish city of Antakya (ancient Antioch) have uncovered a nearly 10,000-square-foot mosaic carpet, the largest ever found in Turkey. Although construction of the hotel is continuing, the mammoth mosaic, which is adorned with elaborate geometric motifs that extend in all directions, remains well preserved and is undamaged from the ongoing construction. In fact according to published reports, the mosaic and associated finds, including a marble floor and the remains of an ancient glass workshop, will be the featured displays in a new museum to be built either inside or adjacent to the hotel.
